Ok. I am feeling a bit guilty about the super short video and lesson yesterday…
AND…I am calling myself out on it!
I was trying to tip-toe around, break things out slowly and not hurt anyones feelings.
Ant it is a BIG But(t)…
That is not who I am.
And I don’t think that is who you are either.
I think you are grown up person who can take what I have to say with a grain of salt…
use what works for you…
and just let the rest go.
I promise not to ‘sugar-coat’ my messages from now on.
Hope that is ok with you!
Please know you can (and should) always let me know what you think.
I am sharing my experiences, lessons learned, thoughts and beliefs.
I KNOW nobody will agree with everything I have to say.
That is part of what makes the world and this life so interesting!
For today’s challenge…
Let’s take a step back and look at the STAGES OF CHRONIC PAIN
Anyone who has chronic pain KNOWS…
that it is super similar to the STAGES OF GRIEF!
The most well-know stages of Grief model (Kuler) has 5 stages.
Lots of folks have written about and expounded on the stages of grief, when losing a loved one, but what about those of us with chronic pain.
We have all lost a major part of ourselves…and that is as bad as losing someone near and dear to our heart.
In many ways, it is actually worse.
The funny thing about these stages is that we can go in and out of them…
backwards and forwards…
up an down…
and sometimes even side-ways.
There are not absolute terms or names for them…
because they feel differently to each one of us.
Here are my loose definition of the different stages …
I think chronic pain folks have more stages…because we still have to live!
- Doubt, Disbelief, Shock, Worry, Fear, Denial
- Pain, Guilt, Suffering, Anguish, Despair, Hopelessness
- Anger, Frustration, Bargaining
- Depression, Loneliness, Reflection, Resignation
- The Upward Turn (Upward Spiral)
- Reconstruction, Finding Solutions/Strategies, Working Through
- Acceptance, Hope, Optimism, Belief…I got this! I am taking back my life!
I could expound on each of these, but it is really up to each of us to define what these terms and stages mean to us.
We will all feel them differently.
We will all experience them differently at various times during our life.
When I first experienced the on-set of chronic pain in my life…I went though all these stages.
Now, when something NEW pops up, I can short circuit the process and work my way through it way faster.
The first time, it took me years (not kidding).
My most recent challenges, I worked through them in less than 30 days.
Was the chronic pain different.
Therein lies the key.
It is never about the situation, circumstances, pain…
it is always about ME.
Remember I said I wasn’t gonna sugar coat stuff any more?
That is a BIGGIE.
Do you get it?
If not, that’s ok.
We will be working on it for 25 more days!
Just stick with me.
I guarantee it will make a difference to you and your chronic pain.
Today. Right now….where do you think you are?
Which step of the 7?
Today I am on step 7…
Mostly because I have wasted enough of my time, energy and life on the other stages and I refuse to live there anymore.
It is up to you.
Where are you now?
Where do you want to be?
What are you willing to do to get there?
Secret: Most of what you need to do is in your mind and ALL of what you need IS ALREADY INSIDE YOU.
Third: Power Thought Card
“Life supports me.”
“Life created me to be fulfilled. I trust Life and Life is always there at every turn. I am safe.”
I am living the life of my dreams.
I am living the life of my dreams right now.
Why is it so easy for me to live (be living) the life of my dreams right now?
Fifth: If This Is Your Life, Here Are The Rules Card:
“Consider there’s more than enough for everyone.”
Nature Of Infinite Love & Gratitude Card:
“I can always do my best. There is no failure–only opportunity.”
Is it really all up to me?
Seventh: Today’s Share Challenge
Today’s share challenge is to post under the comments section of today’s facebook live video: What stage (just put a number if you want) on the chronic pain process stages are you at right now?
You can write a word to describe where you are too, if you like.
We all know that this is just what you are feeling right now…
We know we all have good days and bad days…
So be honest.
Be honest with YOU.
We won’t know if what you are sharing is true or not…
but you will!
That’s it for today.
Chronic Pain may be a part of your life, but it does not have to be your life.
See You Tomorrow,
P.S. Don’t forget to share today!
There is so much we can learn from each other.
