The challenge I selected…and did for ME today is all about low moods…
I found it in my “The Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff Workbook” by Richard Carlson.
As usual…I take poetic license and make it my own.
So what we want to do, especially with the holiday season approaching, is become aware of our moods and not allow them to fool us.
If we let being in a low (bad) mood, influence us…
the results will often not be what we want.
So…let’s explore those low mood situations a bit further.
- Do you consider yourself moody?
- How aware are you of your moods?
- Which of the following describes you when you’re in a bad mood (check all that apply)?
_____rushing to judgment
- Are others aware of your bad mood before you are?
- When you’re in a bad mood, how do you express it?
- When you are in a bad mood, how long do you stay that way?
- List what triggers you bad moods.
- List the things that make you happy, and that can turn your mood around.
- Do you sometimes fin yourself in a bad mood for no reason?
- Do you sometimes make important decisions while you are in a bad mood?
- Did you ever do or say something while you were in a bad mood that you have regretted?
- When I’m in a bad mood, here’s how the world seems to me (check all that apply)
_____work is more difficult
_____everything becomes a bigger challenge
_____slight criticisms become huge personal insults
_____molehills become mountains
_____people’s shortcomings become intentional acts of meanness
_____impersonal realities (like bus delays, telephone busy signals, other drivers) are taken personally
_____home or working conditions become impossible to deal with
_____people are unreasonable
_____pain is more intense
_____my situation (health, pain) seems overwhelming
- Have you ever postponed a meeting or deferred making a decision until you were in a better mood? Would you ever consider doing so? Why or why not?
Nobody else is gonna know how you answer these…
although, they already do know the answers to many of these questions already.
Especially if they live or work with you!
We often do not see certain behaviors in our self, that outsiders can spot from a mile away.
My kids know before I do sometimes, that something is bothering me and lowering my mood…
It is like I told my mother-in-law the other day…your doctor KNOWS you are lying to her when you tell her you ate breakfast…and you didn’t. But worse than that…you are lying to yourself. You are making up excuses as to why you did not have time to eat breakfast, when you arrived to the clinic more than 1/2 hour early. You have to honestly ask yourself and answer…Why did I fib about this to the dr? Why am I telling myself these stories that are NOT IN MY BEST INTEREST and CAUSING ME PAIN??? Only SHE knows the answer…and when she challenges me by saying she doesn’t know…I push right back. Because she does KNOW. She just doesn’t want to face up to and deal with the answer.
People can sense what is going on with other people.
We all have that ability…some more in tune with it than others…but we all have it.
Third: Power Thought Card
“I open new doors to life”
“I rejoice in what I have and I know that fresh new experiences are always ahead. I greet the new with open arms. I trust life to be wonderful.”
I create great relationships.
I create great relationships right now.
Why is it so easy for me to create great relationships (right now)?
Fifth: If This Is Your Life, Here Are The Rules Card:
“Laugh at your shortcomings.”
Nature Of Infinite Love & Gratitude Card:
“There are infinite possibilities within every challenge. My seeds of potential are watered when I say yes to me. I am growing more powerful with every storm I endure.”
Who do you admire? Who do you look up to? Who inspires you? Who do you see as a role model (for one or many areas of your desired life)?
I know it is more than one question…but it is really all the same one, worded differently for clarity.
Seventh: Today’s Share Challenge
Share ONE THING YOU DO TO IMPROVE YOUR MOOD…
That’s it for today.
Chronic Pain may be a part of your life, but it does not have to be your life.
See You Tomorrow,
P.S. Don’t forget to share today!
There is so much we can learn from each other.
